Updates and Changes to Plumbing Systems
1. Comply with IRC provisions in eff ect when the work is performed when making additions, adjustments, alterations, and major repairs to existing plumbing systems. Only the new system components must comply with current IRC provisions. You are not required to make existing plumbing system components comply with current IRC standards, unless the new work causes the existing plumbing system to become unsafe, unsanitary, or overloaded.
2. You do not need to comply with current IRC provisions when making minor additions, adjustments, alterations, and repairs to existing plumbing systems, if the work is performed using methods and materials equivalent to existing methods and materials, and if the work does not cause the existing system to become unsafe, and if the work is approved.
